Days 27-35 Southern California
Next we went to my Aunt Kay’s in Ventura, California. On the first night we slept at her house. The next day we all went to Laguna Beach. We went to the Sawdust and Art Affair festivals. They are like our art fair, only bigger. At the Art Affair I got an eagle picture. Then we went to the hotel. I swam in the eight foot pool. That night we went to The Pageant of the Masters. That was where a whole bunch of people stood still (with makeup and costumes on) in front of backgrounds, reenacting famous works of art. Sadly we weren’t allowed to take any pictures. It was amazing seeing the people who were able to stand still for so long. Even through binoculars, they looked like a painting!
The next morning my mom and I left for the Legoland water park. That was sooooooooo awesome, except I got a sun burn. We went on a huge orange water slide and in a few wading pools…deep enough that you could submerge yourself. One of the places I stayed the most had a water gun battle station. I made a friend there and we were the best shooters with the best gun. There were four guns on the bottom where we were, and four guns in a tower shooting at us. The problem with the only gun that could shoot us was that the water would not reach us. We could shoot everyone in the tower. That was fun.
Then we left to pick up my dad at LAX airport. He had just flown in and we picked him up and gave him 5,000,000,000,000 hugs (maybe more than that). Then we went to sleep in a hotel close to Legoland and dreamt about Day 2.
We woke up the next morning and we went to the ALL-AMAZING LEGOLAND! It was awesome. When you get in, you can see roller coaster cars that are made out of Legos. There were Lego mini-figures all around. There were also life-size Lego creations like African animals, dinosaurs and Star Wars characters. Hey Noah…they even had a giant Albert Einstein head made out of Legos. Very cool. In one of the games all three of us played, we were Team Bott. We competed against 3 other families in an obstacle course. Two people had to pump levers up and down just like in old railroad cars to make our vehicle move. Our vehicle was a fire truck made out of Legos. The other person would move a joystick in the direction you wanted to move. When we got to the end of the course, we flew out of the truck and my dad and I raced to the water guns. Mom pressed the two buttons to make the water guns go and the race was on! Dad and I had to aim at a tiny circle in a picture and fill a tank we couldn’t see. Once the tank was full, the bell rang and we hopped back in our vehicle and pumped all the way back. It was a blast. My dad and I got on a ride where we had to pull a rope to get our car to the top of the tower and then we let go and fell down to start all over. At the end there was a station where you could squirt people on a pirate ship. They could squirt you too. That looked fun, so I went on it. Whoopsies…I got my mom and dad wet! But they got me too! On that ride I saw funny things like a Lego pirate mouse army that fired miniature water cannons at you and the leader said, “Fire, cheese!” After a long day at Legoland, we slept well in our hotel.
The next day we went to the KOA campground in Ventura. We got to sleep in a real teepee. It was huge! My personal favorite things to do there were…playing tetherball, playing on the pirate ship and the homemade NASA spaceship, and having a campfire two nights. Hey Mrs. White…I used my Boy Scout skills to start the fire when the wet wood wasn’t burning. The last night there I went to a giant bonfire sing-along. That was awesome.
One of my favorite things about Ventura was going to the Pacific Ocean for a swim! I went body surfing waist-deep. I waited for a big wave to come and then tried to time my jump just perfectly for the wave to carry me to the beach. If I was lucky enough, the wave would throw me on top and I could see everything before sliding down the front of the wave and onto the beach. The ocean was cold and salty, but I still had fun!
